Wind Jumps 45% - PTC Still Not Renewed
Good news in the wind power sector - installed wind power capacity jumped 45 percent in 2007. That shatters all previous records, according to the American Wind Energy Association.
The looming problem, though, is that the production tax credit (PTC) for wind still hasn’t been renewed. It’s set to expire at the end of this year and it directly effects the health of the wind power industry. The PTC is not permanent and must continuously be renewed - that’s not good business for wind power folks, though. Wind projects tend to stall several months ahead of the PTC expiration date; an uncertain regulatory climate causes nervousness in developers.
